Your boss can ask for a medical certificate from a health professional (like a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist) if you’re sick or injured 3+ calendar days in a row, including weekends or days off. If you’re off work less than 3 days, your boss can only ask for a certificate if they pay for the reasonable cost of getting the proof – like your cost of going to the doctor to get it. Your employer must also tell you as early as possible that they want you to provide the proof. If your employer requested the proof after 3 days then they don't have to pay.
