You can take your 4 weeks’ holiday within 12 months after you get entitled to it. You can also ask to take 2 weeks in a row. If you don’t work a standard week, you and your boss can agree on how you’ll take your leave. If you can’t agree, either of you can ask a labour inspector to decide. If your boss agrees, you can take holidays before you become entitled to them.
You and your boss need to agree when you’ll take your holiday, but your boss can’t unreasonably refuse. If you can’t agree, or your work has an annual closedown period, like over Christmas/New Year, your boss can make you take your holidays at a certain time.
Your employer can only force you to take annual leave if, after a negotiation in good faith, you can’t agree. If this happens your employer must give you 14 days' notice before requiring you to take annual leave.
