Health information is generally considered sensitive personal information. Your employer can't ask your doctor to give your medical information unless you agree.
Sometimes your employer may need more detailed health information, or even a discussion with your doctor. For example, if you're coming back to work after a workplace injury, they may need to be able to speak with your doctor, with your knowledge and permission, to figure out what work you can or can't do.
If your employer asks for your health information beyond requesting a medical certificate to explain being off sick, you may want to get some employment law advice or contact your doctor to discuss any concerns you may have about the request.
