Your employer must keep accurate wage and time, and holidays and leave records that comply with the Employment Relations Act 2000 and the Holidays Act 2003. It’s illegal for either they or you to change the timesheet, unless an actual mistake was made.
If your employer is illegally changing your timesheet, your first step is to talk to them, ask why they are doing it, and ask them to correct it. If they’re falsifying your timesheet, start keeping your own timesheet to show them what your actual hours of work were and how much you expect to be paid. This gives you extra security that you’re being paid correctly, and proof in case you need to take the matter further.
If your employer continues to falsify your timesheet, you can ask them to go to Employment New Zealand’s free mediation services or take them to the Employment Relations Tribunal.
