You must be paid in cash (NZ banknotes or coins) unless:
• your employment agreement has another way of getting paid e.g. bank transfer
• you agree in writing to be paid by postal or money order, cheque or bank deposit. If you want to start getting paid in cash, you need to tell your employer in writing and they have to change over within 2 weeks
• your boss is a Crown entity or local authority, then you can be paid by cheque.
• you’re away from your usual place you get paid, then you can be paid another way.
