As an employee you can decide whether you want to join a union, which union you want to join out of those that cover your type of work, and to resign from a union. You can’t be pressured to join, stay in or not to join a union, or discriminated against because you are or aren’t a member.
A contract can’t force you to be or not be part of a union, or give someone who is or isn’t part of a union preference for benefits, getting or keeping a job, and opportunities for training, promotion or transfer. An employer can’t discriminate because someone is involved with typical union activities like being on the committee, being a negotiator, participating in a lawful strike, submitting a personal grievance, or applying for or taking employment relations education leave.
