When working with other people there’s always the chance of a disagreement. If you’re offended, upset or unsettled by someone or something, it generally doesn’t just go away, normally there needs to be a conversation to resolve the issues. This means you have to sit down and talk about it in a professional way or, at least mention it to the other person. It’s important for your employer to help resolve any conflict, especially since conflict can harm employee wellbeing and lead to sickness or absence from work. Try not to take work disagreements home, especially if you are working and living in shared accommodation. Don’t be afraid to seek outside advice e.g. from a mentor or someone you trust.
Sometimes employee conflict can veer into issues of harassment or other complicated issues. In these cases, it’s always best for employers to involve human resources early in the process.
