There’s no maximum length to a probation period.  It can be for any time so long as it’s reasonable considering the circumstances of you, your boss and the job. If things go really well and both sides agree, the probationary period can be ended and the job confirmed early. This change should be in writing as it’s a change to the employment agreement.
