If you’re a shift worker and are willing and able to carry out your agreed hours of work, but your employer can’t give you either work, or access to a suitable and safe workplace, then this is considered a cancellation of your shift and you may be entitled to compensation.
If you’re not entitled to compensation for shift cancellation, your employment agreement may have other options relating to a disaster that apply to your situation. If none of these apply, you can still discuss options for leave and holidays with your employer in good faith. This may also apply when the current roster ends if you and your employer have not agreed to a new roster.
