You must be paid for all the work you do. There’s no single definition of ‘work’ but it may include any activity where you have responsibilities or constraints on your freedom, or there’s a benefit to your employer. An activity is usually work if it is 'an integral part of the principal activity'.
Some examples of work include:
• handover
• after-hours team meetings
• opening and closing businesses
• cleaning and tidying up
• donning and doffing (putting on and removing safety clothing)
• on-the-job training and product familiarisation
• travel.
