It’s illegal for an employer to give you a job or an employment contract, unless you’re entitled to work in New Zealand. Normally, a business has no obligation to support a migrant work visa.  But if you already have a valid employment contract, your employer can be fined under immigration law.  You can take your employer to Employment New Zealand’s free mediation services and ask for loss of wages and humiliation compensation, or take them to the Employment Relations Tribunal.
