You may be able to get parental leave payments for 26 weeks if you’re an employee or self-employed and you’ve worked for the qualifying period. You can get the lower of $606.46 before tax per week, or your before-tax weekly pay. The minimum payment rate for self-employed parents is $189.00 gross per week, equal to 10 hours of the current adult minimum wage.
You apply to the IRD - they will make the payments, not your employer. You can get extra payments as well as the government ones if your contract includes them, for example your employer can top you up so you get your usual amount of pay. The rules for qualifying for payments are different from qualifying for parental leave from your job.
