Illegal grounds for discrimination can include colour, race, ethnic or national origins, sex (including pregnancy or childbirth), marital or family status, age, domestic violence victim status, disability, religious or ethical belief, political opinion, employment status, sexual orientation, or involvement in union activities.
The illegal grounds of discrimination in employment law (apart from union activity) are the same as in the Human Rights Act 1993, but there are times when it’s acceptable to treat employees differently.
