Working alone is when work is done in a location where the employee can’t physically see or talk to other staff members. There are a number of things to consider in this situation:
• security - working alone may put you at increased risk from other people that you  interact with (e.g. customers) or strangers (e.g. risk of attack)
• social isolation - working alone puts you at risk of social isolation, managers should make sure you can keep in touch regularly and to bring you together with the rest of the team (whether in person or by email, telephone conferences, video conferences etc.)
• organisation isolation - you should get the same information, training and development opportunities, and consultation as other employees. Managers should invite you to attend social and work events.
• technological isolation - you should have access to the same or more advanced technology as other employees (depending on the job requirements)
• safety - your physical safety related to your job tasks will be different if you’re an electrician or an administrator, but both have risks since there may be no one to help you in case of accident.
