When your employer creates the roster, they must meet all the requirements of the employment agreement. It may contain specific hours or days that you can/can’t be rostered, or have to be/don’t have to be available. An availability clause must meet the legal requirements for it to be valid. It may have a number of guaranteed hours, and should have a valid shift cancellation provision. Employers must use these provisions if they want to cancel an employee’s shift. Otherwise they must pay the employee what they would have been paid if they had worked the cancelled shift.
If you have established a pattern for shifts or your contract doesn't say that the employer can reduce your shifts, you can take your employer to the Employment Relations Authority.
