You and your boss can agree on a period of probation to see if you’re right for the job. This must be recorded in your employment agreement, including how long it’s for. If you talk about it but don’t write it in the agreement, there can’t be a probationary period. A probationary period is paid. It doesn’t limit your rights or obligations, and has to be negotiated in good faith. Your employer should tell you what standards you need to meet. You’ll be watched closely and reviewed at the end of the period.
