*Wages* are based on time worked, usually by the hour. You may have penal rates in your employment agreement for things like doing special tasks, working extra hours, or particular days or shifts. Penal rates are negotiated between you and your boss, they can be included in your agreement or negotiated one-off.
*Salary* is normally a fixed yearly amount. The hours to be worked should be in the employment agreement; if the agreement doesn’t have them then the salary must be as much as or more than minimum wage for each hour worked.
*Commission* is based on sales made or a percentage of the value of each sales. Some workers get paid commission only, others a mix of commission and wages. Commissions can be capped or unlimited. If you’re paid on commission you must be paid at least minimum wage.
*Piece rate* is a type of commission where you get paid for each piece you work on, for example the number of bins of fruit you pick, rooms you clean, or shirts you sew. You must still receive at least minimum wage for each hour worked, and your employer must keep a complete record of hours worked for a wage.
