A ‘zero-hour’ contract means you have no guaranteed hours of work but you have to be available whenever your boss offers you work. You have some protections against them.
Individual employment agreements have to comply with the availability rules even if they were made before 1 April 2017. Collective agreements made before 1 April 2016 aren’t subject to the new rules until they are replaced by a new one (this normally happens in 3 years or sooner).
