You can only be suspended in some circumstances, such as where your behaviour is under disciplinary investigation and your being at work may hamper the investigation or cause further issues e.g. if you’re suspected of fraud, you may need to be removed to protect the workplace during the investigation. Or you may be a health and safety risk, e.g. if you work in a safety-sensitive area and are under the influence of drugs/alcohol or aren’t in a fit emotional state to do your job safely.
Your employment agreement or workplace policies should cover suspension. It’s sometimes possible to be suspended without a clause. A suspension is a drastic measure that shouldn’t be used as a disciplinary tool or drag on. It should be the right length to do the investigation or reduce the health and safety risk.
