You can be paid less than minimum if your boss has an exemption permit from a labour inspector because of a disability.
You can be paid less than minimum wage if you’re:
• under 16
• an inmate who does work for a charitable institution
• an apprentice under the Railways Corporation Act 1981, Post Office Act 1959, State Services Act 1962, Maori Housing Amendment Act 1938, Defence Act 1971, or any other Act.
• working under a disability exemption
• a prisoner working while in custody
• those who would be classed as Home and Community Support (Payment for Travel between Clients) Settlement Act 2016 employees who undertake ‘travel between clients,’ as defined under section 4 of that Act.
