You can get parental leave payments for 22 weeks in a row. This will increase to 26 weeks on 1 July 2020. You can also get ‘preterm baby payments’ up to 13 weeks if your baby is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
You need to take parental payments while you’re taking parental leave, and the payment period starts when you start your parental leave, whether it’s primary, partner or extended leave.
Your parental leave payments will end before 22 weeks if you go back to work, or give your partner some of your entitlement. You can transfer all or part of your parental leave payments to your partner if they also qualify.
