You normally get bereavement leave after 6 months of continuous work. Even if you haven’t worked 6 months, you can get bereavement leave if in 6 months you’ve worked an average of 10 hours a week, and at least an hour each week or 40 hours each month.
Your boss can let you take bereavement leave before 6 months have passed, but they can’t use this as a reason not to give it to you another time after you become entitled to it.
You need to tell your employer as soon as possible when you want to take bereavement leave. If you qualify and the bereavement is immediate family (parents, offspring, siblings) your employer can't deny the request.
